The Lesson (oil on wood, 20" x 24") "I found a tiny photograph of Edwine Behre in a 1976 National Geographic. She is the only person I have painted whom I haven't met, although I feel that I know her. It was the intensity of her expression and posture that caught me. I could tell that Edwine had lived a full, challenging life, and was giving some of it back to the world through her teaching. As I read on, I learned that Edwine's master's master's master had been the great pianist, Beethoven. One of my goals in this life is to gather and distribute as much knowledge, joy and creativity as I can. Acknowledging people like Edwine is a good start." Jazz
